This is provided to assist you with class supplies and pattern instructions. We apologize that we aren't always able to cut fabric to these sizes due to how busy our shop may be at the time of your visit. We normally cut fat quarters unless it is during a sale or busy time - it is up to The Quilt Man.

Quilt Sizes:
When making your quilt, take into account:
1. Size of the bed.
2. Depth of the mattress if any hang-down is wanted. Some mattresses are as deep as 21” now.
3. Type of quilting pattern - more quilting = smaller quilt.
4. Size of the batting. You don’t want to make a quilt and then find out it is too big for the batting sizes. You need to allow about 4” of batting around the outer edges of a quilt for a commercial long-arm quilter.
US Standard Mattress Sizes (allow larger quilt - not included in measurements):
The sizes quoted below for quilts vary a lot depending on quilting resource used.
Crib: 28’ x 52” (often quoted quilt size = 50” x 53” - but many people make much smaller)
Cot: 30” x 75” (often quoted quilt size = 65” x 101”)
Twin: 39” x 75” (often quoted quilt size = 71” x 101” or 75” x 98”)
Long Twin - college size: 39” x 80” (often quoted quilt size =
Double: 54” x 74.5” (often quoted quilt size = 86” x 101” or 83” x 106”)
Queen: 60” x 80” (often quoted quilt size = 92” x 106”)
King: 76” x 80” (often quoted quilt size = 108” x 106”)
California King: 72” x 84” (often quoted quilt size = 104” x 110”)
Lap Quilts: Depends on circumstances, often 36” x 36”
Throw Quilts: Depends on person getting quilt. 55” x 76” is one measurement, but if you are making a quilt for an extra tall person or a person who is larger, you would want to adjust the measurement.
Backing Sizes:
Twin: 6 yards
Full: 7.5 yards
Queen: 8.25 yards
King: 9.25 yards
