News for Fiber Artists - Art Quilters:
A new group for Fiber Artists in the Richmond area has been set up through Yahoo groups. The group’s purpose is to help fiber artists establish contacts, build community, and to occasionally meet. The Yahoo address to join is:

Cleaning? Sorting through your stash? Does your sewing group need a new project?
Sew Much Comfort, a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) # 12289, provides adaptive clothing free of charge to support the unique needs of our injured service members from all branches of the military and national guard.

Per communication with them, the website designer has learned the group needs a variety of fabric for making the clothing. Many groups and people make or send clothes, but they take fabric donations to assist with making the clothes. They can use “mostly flannel (very subdued plaid or solid black/navy blue), denim, khaki twill and
patriotic fabrics. Any donations like this are truly appreciated:

Humane Society
Scraps you leave after classes, clubs, etc. or that you donate, are given to the humane society. They use the scraps for bedding for the animals.
Ferral Cat Calendars
We usually carry Ferral Cat calendars that are for sale, with the donations going to the group. (Note, the calendars aren’t free)
Cancer Fundraising and Other Events
The Quilt Man makes the classroom available for groups that want to sew and make quilts, etc. for fundraising for the various cancer societies, quilts for the troops, and other community activities. Check with The Quilt Man to see if the classroom is available for use when you want to schedule it, and then reserve it.
Many quilters go to the bingo group in the Montpelier community. The bingo regularly contributes funds for the cancer society from the auction of quilts, etc. A group of women here at the shop participate in making quilts and other items for this group. If you have an item for this group, or would like to be involved in making something for this, let us know and we can give you more information.
Donated Fabrics, etc.
From time to time people leave fabrics, batting, etc. at the shop to be used in a charity event or to be given to use for charity purposes. We pass along those items to people and groups making items for charity events.
Emcee
If you don’t know The Quilt Man well enough to know he is quite a “ham” and has a great voice - even for singing (sister bragging here, no agent fees), then you would be surprised to learn that various charities have asked him to “emcee” their events. You can ask him, and if his schedule allows, he can consider this for your group.
Donations and Other Requests
The Quilt Man is often approached about making donations of funds, materials, etc. for various groups and charities. There are so many wonderful and great groups and charities, and so many needs. The Quilt Man normally can’t participate in most of these things due to resources, and also because of disappointment if your charity isn’t supported and someone else’s is. The Quilt Man and his wife are active in church and community, and encourages his customers to be active in your community as well.
